Troubleshooting 404 or 504 Errors on Kaleidoscope

If you're encountering a 404 or 504 error while using Kaleidoscope, try the following steps first:

Quick Fixes

  1. Clear your browser's cookies and cache.

  2. Restart your browser.

  3. Try accessing the page in a different browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari).


Step 1: Clear Your Cookies and Cache

Switching roles frequently (like logging in as a client, then as a reviewer or applicant) can cause your browser to store conflicting cookies. Clearing them usually resolves the issue.

Quick Way to Clear Cookies for Kaleidoscope:

  1. Click the lock icon 🔒 next to the Kaleidoscope URL in your browser.

  2. Select Cookies.

  3. Remove or clear all cookies listed for the site.

  4. Refresh the page.

To Clear Full Cookies + Cache (Optional but Recommended):

Google Chrome

  • Click the 3 dots (top right) → SettingsPrivacy & SecurityClear Browsing Data

  • Choose Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files

  • Click Clear data

Mozilla Firefox

  • Click the 3 lines (top right) → SettingsPrivacy & Security

  • Under Cookies and Site Data, click Clear Data

  • Select both Cookies and Cached Web Content, then click Clear

Microsoft Edge

  • Click the 3 dots (top right) → SettingsPrivacy, search, and services

  • Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear

  • Select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files

  • Click Clear now

Safari (Mac)

  • Go to Safari > Settings (or Preferences)Privacy

  • Click Manage Website Data → Find and remove Kaleidoscope cookies, or click Remove All

  • Then go to the Advanced tab, enable Show Develop menu in menu bar

  • In the menu bar, go to Develop > Empty Caches


Step 2: Restart or Try a New Browser

After clearing cookies and cache:

  • Restart your browser

  • Or try using a different browser (e.g., switch from Chrome to Firefox)

Safari (Mac only)

  1. Go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced

  2. Check the box for “Show Develop menu in menu bar”

  3. Then press Cmd + Option + I or use Develop > Show JavaScript Console
